Oklahoma City University saves $630,000 a year with Leidos

Oklahoma City University faced a challenge with its aging and inefficient central steam heating system, which required costly repairs and 24/7 staffing. Lacking the capital for a necessary overhaul, the university partnered with Leidos, who utilized a performance contract to finance and implement a steam optimization project.

Leidos replaced the central steam plant with eight localized, high-efficiency hot water heating systems. This solution eliminated distribution losses, improved efficiency, and reduced maintenance. Alongside the steam optimization, Leidos implemented additional energy-saving upgrades. The $7.5 million project is generating $630,000 in annual savings, funded entirely through the performance contract, and is on track to save the university $2 million over 15 years without any large upfront capital outlay.
