The University of Notre Dame’s Office of General Counsel supports the university’s wide-ranging legal needs but was relying on a basic shared folder system that hindered organization and efficiency. Charged with finding a better solution, Associate General Counsel Timothy Flanagan evaluated options to enable web‑based access, improve matter organization, and create an electronic contract repository with lifecycle tracking for roughly 35 users.

Notre Dame mapped current processes and implemented Legal Files as a single, web‑based system for matter and contract management. The platform centralized documents and email, provided case “snapshots” for quicker onboarding, integrated Crystal Reports for custom reporting, created a University Contract Repository to track milestones and authorized signatories, and is now being extended to track outside counsel expenses—delivering improved visibility, efficiency, and broader institutional benefits.
