A Legal Files Software Case Study
Patuxent Riverkeeper is a small, privately funded nonprofit that protects and restores the 110-mile Patuxent River and its watershed spanning seven counties. With a tiny staff and reliance on volunteers, the organization struggled with meticulous, manual tracking of complaints and disparate notes that made it hard to share work, connect related incidents, and ensure nothing fell through the cracks.
They implemented Legal Files, a customizable legal case-management system, building a relational database with shared contacts, linked records, emails and phone logs. The result: complaints are tracked to closure, previously hidden links between cases (such as a recurring inspector issue) were uncovered, workflow and team collaboration improved, and critical contact and case information is safeguarded as an organizational asset for easier handoffs and greater overall efficiency.
