A Leaseweb Case Study
Yubo, a Paris‑based social app founded in 2015 that connects people in real time, faced a growing safety and moderation challenge as its community and language evolved. The platform handles about 15 million messages a day and 1.55 million annotated learning samples monthly, but short, mixed‑language slang, emojis, intentional misspellings and live streams made third‑party moderation APIs ineffective and unsustainable. Ensuring user safety across text, images and lives became mission‑critical.
Yubo built its own AI moderation platform on Leaseweb Dedicated Servers and Hybrid Cloud (private networking, SSDs, high‑performance CPUs across the US, Netherlands and Australia), deploying ~120 production models (CBOW/fastText, NBSVM) with fast APIs for high‑volume content and deeper ML pipelines for high‑risk, low‑volume cases. Using supervised learning enhanced with active learning and in‑app annotation, the move off Google Cloud cut infrastructure costs by over 80%, improved moderation accuracy, enabled partnerships with NCMEC and an expert Safety Board, and delivered scalable, stable protection as the user base grows.
