Typing Program Overhauled by District to Meet New State Requirements

Kent School District in Kent, Washington—a large district serving elementary through high school—faced a mandate to update its typing curriculum after Washington adopted new technology-rich standards and moved to computer adaptive assessments. Technology Implementation Program Specialist Sarah Stoddard joined a review committee charged with finding a standards-aligned, assessment-ready solution with strong instructional design, multilingual support, and staff development resources.

The district piloted Learning.com’s EasyTech during a month-long field test, selected it based on positive teacher feedback, and rolled it out initially for grades 4–6 before expanding to start in grade 2. The new program meets state requirements, supports daily integration of typing and digital skills, and has led the district to explore additional EasyTech offerings such as digital citizenship, computational thinking, and coding through an ongoing partnership.
