The Society of Chief Librarians (SCL), funded in part by Arts Council England, needed to help public library staff recognise barriers to online access, support people with disabilities, and strengthen staff as digital champions amid a context where millions of UK households lack internet. To scale this training SCL partnered with Learning Pool Limited, using its Learning Management System and the Learning Pool Essential e-learning programme.

Learning Pool Limited delivered a five-module programme with self-registration and an award-winning support helpdesk, enabling rapid onboarding and ROI measurement. In less than four months, 14,000 public library staff — roughly 80% of the workforce — completed the training, boosting staff digital confidence and improving libraries’ ability to help customers access online services.
