Lidl GB, a major grocery retailer with over 28,000 frontline employees, faced a critical challenge when the 2020 lockdown halted all classroom-based training for its 1,200 annual new shift managers. This created a significant gap in their path to competency. To address this, Lidl GB partnered with the vendor Learning Pool (formerly Confirm) to rebuild their frontline training from the ground up.

Learning Pool developed a digital learning program accessible on in-store tablets, designed specifically around shop floor operations. This solution condensed a full-day workshop into just two hours of online learning. The results were substantial, with a 58% reduction in training time and projected cost savings of £2.5 million. Furthermore, the program improved effectiveness, increasing the number of learners scoring 85% or higher on assessments from 55% to 71%, leading to fewer errors in stores.
