Boots, a UK pharmacy and beauty retailer with over 2,500 stores, needed a fresh approach to its annual Christmas product training for more than 45,000 users (including temporary staff). Historically delivered as a 20-minute e-learning module, Boots asked Mind Click (now part of Learning Pool Limited) to create a more engaging, emotionally resonant solution using a gamified approach built on an Articulate Storyline game engine.
Learning Pool Limited developed a fully branded, Christmas-themed learning game with avatar selection, store-based leaderboards and 10 mini gamified SCORM-compliant e-learning modules delivered in a 20-minute session (HTML5/JavaScript multi-device). The results were dramatic: users rose from 15,000 in 2014 to over 45,000 in 2015 (a 200% increase), completion rates increased by 50%, the game won Silver for ‘Best Learning Game’ at the 2016 Learning Technologies Awards, and Boots is now expanding gamification across L&D.
