A LeanKit Case Study
Vertafore, a leading provider of technology and information solutions for the insurance industry serving over 20,000 agencies, needed to speed time-to-market and improve quality across a large, heterogeneous IT organization of ~500 people spread across multiple US and offshore sites. After finding Scrum too prescriptive for diverse teams, Vertafore sought a more flexible Lean-Agile approach and faced practical issues like poor workflow visibility and manual duplication of work between LeanKit and Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS).
They adopted LeanKit Kanban with an organic rollout and built an integration with TFS (later extended to bi-directional sync of title, description, priority and size). LeanKit became the standard workflow tool (>400 boards, >600 users, >46,000 cards), eliminated duplicate entries (about 23,000 cards tied to TFS; 667 cards synced in the first ten weeks), reduced interruptions, improved flow visibility and reporting (CFDs, burn-downs), and helped Vertafore accelerate delivery while driving Lean-Agile cultural change.
