Opening Manufacturing 'Doors' with 3D Communication

KVAL, a family-owned manufacturer of heavy industrial woodworking machinery for the door and window industry, needed a better way to share complex 3D designs across engineering, manufacturing, and service. Its SolidWorks-based models were too large and slow to use effectively for downstream communication, making collaboration, spare-parts identification, and technician support cumbersome.

Lattice Technology’s XVL compression and viewing technology gave KVAL lightweight 3D models that could be quickly viewed, animated, and shared on ordinary PCs and through web browsers. The result was faster communication between design and manufacturing, reduced rework, technician learning curves cut from days to minutes, spare-part service calls shortened from 15–20 minutes to seconds, and overall productivity gains of about 20–25% in manufacturing and at least 10% in support.
