How Academy 4 Scales Volunteer 1 Training to Serve 6,500 Students

Academy 4 is a Fort Worth nonprofit that pairs fourth graders in Title I schools with one-on-one community mentors; since 2012 it has grown to serve 60+ schools and more than 6,500 volunteers. Their challenge was onboarding and standardizing thousands of diverse volunteers—many with limited tech comfort—while ensuring child-safety compliance, consistent program delivery, and steady recruitment across sites.

They implemented a simple, mobile-first eLearning workflow using LatitudeLearning and Articulate Rise: a short annual “Academy 4 Basics” course, click-to-acknowledge safety agreements, site coordinators for local management, and LMS tracking of completions. The result is scalable, repeatable training that maintains compliance, increases mentor confidence and retention, and supports measurable impact through completion data and positive teacher/mentor feedback.
