The City of Rochester Powers Public Records Requests

The City of Rochester, NY, needed to boost efficiency and transparency across more than a dozen interconnected departments—especially for public records requests that previously relied on paper forms and could take up to five days to begin processing. CIO Lisa Bobo and her team sought a single platform to modernize workflows, document management and retention across the city.

Rochester implemented Laserfiche to launch an online FOIL (Freedom of Information Law) portal and enterprise automation tools that immediately route requests, let citizens track status, and provide managers with a progress dashboard. The city now digitally processes over 4,000 FOIL requests a year in roughly half the time, achieved standardized records retention, improved public transparency, and expanded Laserfiche use into police and accounting workflows.
