A Laserfiche Case Study
Chesterfield County, VA, used the migration from Laserfiche 7 to 9 as an opportunity to reorganize an aging repository of technology-purchase documents that had grown cluttered and inconsistent. Many records had incomplete or missing metadata, all document types were dumped at the root, and the county needed a new structure that stayed familiar to staff to minimize retraining.
The county built a new hierarchy by document type, consolidated “Closed” projects by department, and numbered status folders to reflect process order. Laserfiche Workflow was used to search and route records automatically—complete records to the proper status folders, partially complete records to a correction queue, and legacy items with no metadata to a “No Metadata” folder—and to delete empty folders on demand. The result was a cleaner, easier-to-navigate repository with automated processing for most records and a clear plan for prioritizing manual metadata corrections.
