Oneida County Enhances Communication and Collaboration During COVID-19

Oneida County, New York, faced the dual challenge of protecting public health and maintaining essential services as COVID‑19 spread. Having already invested in digital transformation under County Executive Anthony Picente, the county needed to rapidly transition staff to remote work, support local health department case monitoring, and assess the pandemic’s impact on businesses while enabling cross‑departmental information sharing.

The county used Laserfiche electronic forms and automated workflows to assess telework readiness, automate daily monitoring and outreach for people who tested positive, and collect business‑impact surveys. Within 30 days more than 60% of the workforce was working from home, pandemic processes achieved same‑day turnaround, the county received 300+ business submissions, improved contact and follow‑up for patients, helped organize PPE procurement, and positioned itself to expand digital services going forward.
