North County Transit District Improves Public Records Access and Retention

North County Transit District (NCTD) operates light rail, commuter rail, buses and paratransit across North San Diego County, moving about 12 million passengers a year. The agency needed reliable, auditable access to public records to meet regulatory and safety requirements, but documents were scattered on unstructured shared drives, making it slow and difficult to locate correct versions for public information requests and internal projects.

NCTD implemented Laserfiche to create a centralized records repository, department-specific structures and automated workflows and digital forms (for things like time-off requests and onboarding). The solution cut staff time spent locating records and responding to FOIA requests, sped submissions and approvals, and established a compliant records retention and destruction process—helping ensure standard operating procedures are followed and improving overall operational efficiency.
