How the City of Southlake, TX Automated Police Department Hiring

The City of Southlake, TX, a Dallas–Fort Worth suburb, faced a slow, paper-based police hiring process that required applicants to complete a 28‑page packet, then scan or mail it back for manual review. Tracking supplemental documents and protecting sensitive data was difficult, reviews took two to four weeks, and the department wasted time and paper preparing packets for interview boards.

Southlake implemented Laserfiche Forms to replace the paper workflow with a dynamic electronic application that displays only relevant fields, enforces 80+ business rules, routes submissions automatically to reviewers with priority flags, and tracks testing and compliance. As a result, processing time dropped to about 90 minutes, the volume of applicants doubled, hiring decisions are made much faster (helping the city hire top candidates), and reporting tools simplify TCOLE compliance and application tracking.
