A Laserfiche Case Study
Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital (BTUH) serves about 400,000 people and was managing roughly 500,000 paper medical charts (44 million pages) stored offsite. Retrieving records was time-consuming, only one clinician could view a chart at a time, and missing charts sometimes forced appointments to be postponed.
BTUH integrated Laserfiche with its Patient Administration System and built a custom, paper-like portal that presents clinicians with their clinic list, categorized documents, timeline and list views, annotation and “break glass” security, and electronic form capture. The solution gives instant, concurrent access to complete records, consolidates departmental silos, supports legal compliance (BS 10008), and has reduced cancelled/rescheduled appointments while improving clinicians’ ability to connect episodes of care.
