A Laserfiche Case Study
Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine, which serves over 400 undergraduate students and more than 500 residents, faced a paper-heavy records challenge: each student’s files were kept in single paper folders stored onsite or offsite, making document retrieval slow and cumbersome. The legacy process created inefficiencies and risk of lost records as staff had to fetch folders and manually search for individual documents.
The school implemented Laserfiche to scan incoming and legacy records, import electronic documents, and organize everything in a single repository that mirrors the faculty’s existing folder structure. Using standardized document templates and metadata (including a 60‑year retention date field), the project delivered faster search and retrieval, reduced physical storage, ensured a single authoritative copy of each record, and enabled secure, simultaneous access by multiple employees.
