A Laserfiche Case Study
The City of O’Fallon implemented a Laserfiche WebLink public portal to give residents and businesses 24/7 access to municipal records and to reduce the heavy burden of manual Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. Before the portal, staff spent dozens to hundreds of hours fulfilling complex requests and handled frequent basic research inquiries from citizens and contractors.
O’Fallon customized a clear file-tree structure in Laserfiche so users can self-serve documents; attorneys and contractors now find what they need online, cutting FOIA requests by at least 50% and basic research questions by about two‑thirds. The portal saved thousands of dollars for single requests, has paid for itself many times over in staff-time savings, freed staff to focus on core city work, and prompted plans to integrate the city’s GIS with Laserfiche.
