A Laserfiche Case Study
The City of Lakewood, Colorado needed a better way to manage 30 years of maps, plats, plans and other records spread across multiple departments. In 2001 staff formed the Digital Archives Group (DAG) to set retention policies, standardize indexing and find a user-friendly document management solution that would break down departmental silos.
DAG implemented Laserfiche with shared departmental costs, training and governance, later centralizing system administration in IT and building integrations (permit system, GIS) via the Laserfiche SDK. The result: decentralized capture with centralized storage, faster concurrent retrieval, reduced physical storage, stronger interdepartmental collaboration, improved public transparency and a roadmap to expand Laserfiche across finance, courts, utilities and other city workflows.
