Alabama Department of Mental Health Digitizes Patient Records

The Alabama Department of Mental Health serves more than 200,000 patients annually across state hospitals and clinics and manages medical archives dating back 150 years. Faced with federal requirements under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to demonstrate meaningful use of electronic health records—and with clinicians needing fast, reliable access to patient information—the agency needed an efficient, agency-wide records management solution.

At the state’s recommendation the department implemented Laserfiche, leveraging the platform’s ease of use, competitive pricing and a partnership that shortened deployment and improved data sharing. ADMH digitized all records at Bryce Hospital, integrated Laserfiche with its CoCentrix medical system, and created an automated, shared repository accessible in three clicks—eliminating a physical archive, reducing duplicate data entry, improving federal compliance, freeing funds for patient services, and enabling higher-quality care and more patient visits.
