Lantronix Helps Power New Net-Zero Energy Hotel

Hotel Marcel, a historic hotel in New Haven, CT, had the ambitious challenge of becoming the country's first net-zero energy hotel by retrofitting a 50-year-old building to operate entirely on the energy it creates. To achieve this environmental goal, they required highly efficient energy technologies and turned to vendor Lantronix and their Smart Managed Gigabit Ethernet PoE++ switch.

The solution implemented by Lantronix was a customized PoE++ switch that distributes power and controls using low voltage DC. This technology was integrated into the hotel's on-site DC microgrid, enabling it to generate 100% of its own electricity. The results include the hotel achieving net-zero energy status, a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and zero disruptions during power outages, as demonstrated when it continued to operate a 150-person event during a nearly three-hour grid failure.
