Lantronix Contributes to Smart Energy System in Toronto High Rise

Platek Services Inc., a project management services company, was tasked with retrofitting a historic Toronto high-rise to create a smart energy management platform. The challenges included the need to control energy usage, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and install a new fiber-optic backbone network on each floor without the high cost and difficulty of running new AC electrical conduit. To address this, they partnered with vendor Lantronix.

Lantronix provided a solution using its Smart Managed Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ Switches (SM24TAT2SA) and Network Interface Devices (S3290). This hardware powered wireless access points via PoE+ and created the network backbone, eliminating the need for new AC electrical lines. The results were successful, leading to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, controlled energy costs, and the implementation of a multi-use platform that included tenant thermostats and an electronic door locking system.
