How Lantronix Media Converters Enabled Connection and Powering of Wireless Access Points in a Challenging Environment

A major multi-building hospital in Texas faced the challenge of providing continuous Wi-Fi coverage inside its elevators for staff using mobile communication devices. Conventional methods of running new Ethernet and power cables to each elevator car were impractical and cost-prohibitive. The hospital turned to Lantronix to find a solution that could leverage the building's existing infrastructure without a major rewiring project.

Lantronix provided its Ethernet over Coax Extenders with PoE+ to overcome the challenge. This solution used the elevator's legacy coaxial cabling to extend the network connection and deliver power over the same cable to dedicated wireless access points installed in each elevator car. As a result, medical staff now maintain a reliable connection to critical communication and patient information systems without interruption while using the elevators. The Lantronix solution saved significant costs by avoiding a major construction project and provided features like Auto Power Reset for remote management.
