Flock Safety sought to create an affordable, automated license plate reader (ALPR) camera to help communities fight non-violent crime. Their challenge was to build a functional, cost-effective device with cloud connectivity, long battery life, and a secure, infrastructure-less design. To achieve this, they partnered with Lantronix.

Lantronix provided its Open-Q 624A SOM and Development Kit, along with engineering expertise to create a custom solution. This gave Flock Safety a powerful, production-ready platform that enabled rapid prototyping and market entry. The resulting cameras can capture data on 15,000 vehicles daily and are used in over 700 cities, where law enforcement agencies have reported crime reductions as high as 60%.
