Case Study: Tulsa Public Schools supports English language learners with LanguageLine

A LanguageLine Case Study

Tulsa Public Schools supports nearly 25% of students who are English language learners with LanguageLine

Tulsa Public Schools, a district where nearly a quarter of students are English Language Learners, faced a significant challenge in maintaining educational equity and communication when it shifted to remote learning during the pandemic. The district needed to ensure that limited-English families, who felt the brunt of COVID-19's devastation, could stay connected to their children's education and receive critical support. To address this, the district implemented translation services and on-demand interpretation from LanguageLine Solutions.

LanguageLine provided the district with real-time access to professional interpreters in over 240 languages for remote parent-teacher conferences and support, as well as translation of written materials. This solution made at-home schooling far more manageable for families and helped teachers effectively communicate. As a result, Tulsa Public Schools data indicated that its English Language Learners engaged with virtual schooling at higher rates than other student groups, and early anecdotal evidence showed the strategies had a positive impact on student success.
