Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System faced the challenge of serving a diverse patient population that required access to interpreters in a wide array of languages beyond the Spanish, Russian, and American Sign Language interpreters they had on staff. To ensure no patient faced a language barrier, they partnered with LanguageLine to implement its Video Remote Interpreting service, accessed via an iPad solution called Interpreter on Wheels.
The solution from LanguageLine provided the healthcare system with on-demand, 24/7 video access to professional interpreters in over 40 languages. This allowed staff to communicate effectively, including with Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients. Through a grant, Spartanburg Regional expanded its deployment to 18 total units, ensuring their 9,000 employees can deliver clear communication during over 174,000 annual emergency visits.
