Nassau County Police Department brings video interpreting to 177 patrol vehicles with LanguageLine

The Nassau County Police Department faced a challenge in communicating with its diverse community, which includes over 130,000 limited-English proficient residents. To improve community policing and ensure everyone is respected and protected, the department turned to vendor LanguageLine for its Video Interpreting service.

LanguageLine implemented its InSight video interpreting application on officers' smartphones, providing on-demand access to professional interpreters in over 240 languages, including American Sign Language. This solution enhanced safety, defused volatile situations, and improved the accuracy of communication during investigations. The department equipped over 650 phones with the application, significantly improving interactions with the public.
