TAURON Dystrybucja GZE pilots a comprehensive smart metering solution

TAURON Dystrybucja GZE, the former Vattenfall Distribution Poland, was preparing for a full smart metering rollout for its 1.1 million customers and needed to validate the technology, deployment process, IT integration, and internal resources before scaling. Landis+Gyr was selected to provide its Gridstream smart metering solution as a pilot platform, with requirements for end-to-end functionality, interoperability with third-party meters, and two-way communication for residential smart metering.

Landis+Gyr implemented Gridstream AIM with 11,600 smart meters, 95 data concentrators, transformer monitoring, PLC/GPRS communication, and integration of 1,000 Iskra IDIS meters, plus connections to TAURON Dystrybucja GZE’s billing, SCADA, Data Warehouse, and installation systems. The pilot improved loss detection, network visibility, outage recovery, and customer service through near real-time data and remote control capabilities, while also establishing best practices for the planned 1.1 million-customer rollout.
