Case Study: Stedin improves smart street lighting and grid monitoring with Landis+Gyr S650

S650 Smart Grid Terminal provides a unique solution for street lighting and smart grid development

Stedin, a Dutch network operator serving more than 2.0 million customers, needed to modernize its street lighting infrastructure and improve grid efficiency as part of its move toward a smarter, more sustainable network. To address these challenges, Stedin worked with Landis+Gyr and used the S650 Smart Grid Terminal to replace outdated centralized control systems and support both streetlight management and transformer monitoring.

Landis+Gyr implemented a combined smart solution that enabled real measurement of streetlight consumption, remote switching and dimming, and monitoring of distribution transformers. The project improved energy efficiency, reduced CO2 emissions and operating costs, and provided better visibility into network status and power quality. Landis+Gyr also supported a rollout of 150 S650 terminals for 75 transformers, with plans to extend the technology to Hoeksche Waard Island, covering 200 transformers and 40,000 consumers for smart metering.
