A Landis+Gyr Case Study
The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) financed a project to modernize Romania’s wholesale electricity metering system, helping Transelectrica improve metering across the transmission network and support a liberalized power market. The challenge was to install a robust commercial metering management system that could capture, validate, and share large volumes of meter data for settlement, losses, and network operations.
Landis+Gyr delivered and installed its Converge and www100 metering management system at Transelectrica’s headquarters in Bucharest, with a redundant cluster-based architecture for acquisition, processing, and data sharing. The solution now handles data from 900 meters and 140 concentrators, performs up to 1.5 million validated values per day, and supports best-value and redundant-meter calculations; it has operated successfully since 2005, with a major upgrade in 2006, and gives subsidiaries secure access to meter data while improving reliability, scalability, and data continuity.
