Oncor Uses MDM Data to Boost Operations, Customer Satisfaction

Oncor, the largest regulated transmission and distribution utility in Texas, needed a better way to use smart meter data to improve outage management and customer service across its massive grid. Working with vendor Landis+Gyr, Oncor deployed Gridstream AMI and Gridstream MDMS, along with SmartData for Outage Management, to bring meter data and its outage management system into a more integrated environment.

Landis+Gyr helped Oncor link its MDMS and OMS so the utility could reduce false positives, prioritize alarms, and validate outages and restorations more quickly. In the first six weeks of integration, the AMI system generated more than 1,400 unusual-event notifications; over half of the outages were restored before customers reported them, and 100% of the events were validated as actual, helping Oncor identify problems earlier and improve service restoration.
