How One Texas Electric Cooperative is Making it Happen

United Cooperative Services, a North Central Texas electric cooperative, wanted to help its members make smarter, more cost-effective energy choices. To do that, it needed rich, timely, and precise usage data beyond the daily information it previously had, and it was already using Landis+Gyr smart meters with Gridstream PLC technology.

Landis+Gyr provided an AMI solution built on Gridstream PLC, FOCUS meters, and Command Center, giving UCS hourly interval data on usage, demand, and voltage. This enabled personalized energy audits, helped members understand when and why spikes occurred, and led many households and businesses to change their consumption behavior. UCS is now extending the program with home area network devices, in-home displays, and a planned web portal so members can track long-term trends and reduce their bills.
