Case Study: Western Indiana Energy improves outage detection with Landis+Gyr AMI

A Landis+Gyr Case Study

Preview of the Western Indiana Energy Case Study

How an Indiana co-op is using its AMI system to improve detection

Western Indiana Energy (WIN) REMC, a distribution cooperative serving eight counties and more than 16,500 homes and businesses, needed to control costs while improving outage management and keeping member rates low. To address this challenge, WIN worked with Landis+Gyr and its Gridstream PLC AMI system to better detect and confirm outages.

Landis+Gyr’s always-on PLC technology provided unsolicited outage detection and restoration notifications, while integration with WIN’s outage management system helped verify reports and reduce false outages caused by worker oversights. The result was faster, more accurate outage identification and restoration tracking, with WIN able to validate the status of roughly 16,800 meters in as little as 20 minutes, improving efficiency and helping control costs.
