Case Study: ERDF advances smart metering rollout with Landis+Gyr

Driving forward smart metering on a global scale

ERDF, France’s main electricity distribution network operator, faced the challenge of planning one of the world’s largest smart metering rollouts, with 35 million meters to be deployed nationwide. To validate the technology, installation process, logistics, and interoperability requirements, ERDF worked with Landis+Gyr on a large-scale pilot using Linky smart electricity meters and data concentrators.

Landis+Gyr supplied 100,000 Linky smart meters and 3,500 concentrators for the pilot, helping ERDF confirm reliable communication, smooth installation and rollout practices, and compatibility with ERDF’s network and devices. The pilot demonstrated strong technical performance and supported ERDF’s move toward a smart grid, with benefits including improved network monitoring, faster outage detection, actual-consumption billing, and better customer service.
