University of Tennessee, Knoxville improves campus space analytics with Lambent across 294 buildings

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) faced challenges in understanding how its 294 buildings and classrooms were utilized, lacking data to validate schedules, compare occupancy over time, or accurately forecast space needs. To address this, UTK partnered with vendor Lambent to deploy its space analytics software to monitor occupancy and inform utilization decisions, starting with the John C. Hodges library.

Lambent implemented a privacy-first solution that used existing Wi-Fi infrastructure to provide anonymous occupancy data without requiring new hardware. The results enabled UTK to optimize cleaning crew schedules based on peak usage, validate classroom utilization via integration with scheduling software, and inform strategic renovation and space reassignment decisions. This data-driven approach provided essential analytics for long-term planning, helping UTK meet the needs of its growing student population and support its mission.
