A LabVantage Solutions Case Study
Oregon Health and Science University’s Knight Cancer Institute BioLibrary faced the challenge of consolidating more than 120 disparate biobanks, registries, and legacy tracking systems into a single, standards-based platform to improve specimen access, consent tracking, regulatory compliance, and data consistency. After evaluating home‑grown, open‑source, and commercial options, OHSU selected LabVantage Solutions’ LabVantage Biobanking LIMS to provide the required flexibility, structure, security, and vendor support.
LabVantage Solutions implemented its purpose‑built Biobanking LIMS, migrating data from Access, Excel, Word and home‑grown systems and rolling repositories into a centralized, searchable catalog now holding more than 150,000 tumor samples from about 25,000 participants across 40+ study protocols. The LIMS enforced uniform data capture (minimum key data elements), simplified sample assignment and access workflows, reduced custom code for smoother upgrades, and has driven measurable increases in samples collected and researcher requests fulfilled while enabling staff to manage and locate specimens more reliably.
