LabVantage Medical Suite Helps Improve Cancer Care in Sweden

Skåne University Hospital, part of Region Skåne’s Laboratory Medicine network, faced the challenge of managing high-volume, multidisciplinary lab work across nine general labs, four pathology labs and two microbiology labs—together performing some 30 million tests annually—while improving cancer diagnostics, enabling remote expert review, and streamlining workflows. To address this, Skåne deployed LabVantage Solutions’ LabVantage Medical Suite as its laboratory information system.

LabVantage Solutions implemented the LabVantage Medical Suite in 2019, integrating it with PACS, instruments and hospital systems to enable digital pathology (more than 4,000 histology slides scanned daily), an image-enabled diagnostics view, and a conferencing tool for off-site specialist review. The solution sped access to historical records for recurrence comparisons, supported multidisciplinary rounds, improved diagnostic quality and ergonomics for pathologists, and helped automate routine processes to reduce errors and overall costs while supporting the region’s ~30 million annual tests.
