The University of Florida sought a solution to provide practical lab experience for students in its online biology degree program and to overcome the constraints of its residential courses, where certain experiments were impossible due to time, cost, and safety. The university partnered with Labster to co-create three virtual lab simulations for its Evolutionary Developmental Biology course.

Labster implemented virtual labs that allowed students to perform complex genetic experiments, control time, and make mistakes without real-world consequences. This solution enabled the teaching of experiments that were previously unfeasible, saved thousands of dollars on equipment and sample costs, and provided a deeper, more engaging learning experience. Students responded very positively to the medically relevant case stories and the enhanced access to advanced machinery.
