A Labster Case Study
University College Cork, a large Irish university, sought to improve student engagement, ensure lab safety, and enable the teaching of subjects that were difficult or dangerous to conduct in a physical wet lab. To address this challenge, they partnered with Labster to implement its comprehensive suite of virtual lab simulations across their science, engineering, and health programs.
Labster provided a solution where its simulations served as a supplemental teaching resource, not a full substitution for hands-on lab work. The university made specific simulations, like Lab Safety, mandatory to standardize training, and used others to safely teach complex techniques like the Kjeldahl method. The implementation was a significant success, with Labster being used in over 80 modules for approximately 3000 students. The vendor's development of shorter, focused simulations further allowed faculty to tailor the content to their specific courses, preventing overlap across different departments.
