Tecnológico de Monterrey reaches 3,000 students with Labster virtual labs

Tecnológico de Monterrey, a respected university in Mexico, sought to provide its students with accessible virtual laboratory practices, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenge involved ensuring 300 students in courses like Cellular Biology and Metabolism could gain practical experience without always being in a physical lab. To address this, the university turned to the vendor Labster and its virtual lab simulations.

Labster provided a platform for remote, in-person, and hybrid classes, allowing students to practice techniques safely and repetitively. The solution was integrated with the university's Canvas LMS, and students used eight simulations in subjects like Physiology and Microbiology. Professor Lizette Hernández reported improved student motivation, teamwork, and active learning. Labster also helped students expand their specialized English vocabulary. The implementation was so successful that the university, a pioneer of Labster in Latin America, continues to use the simulations for over 3,000 students even after returning to in-person classes.
