Oakwood University expands nursing simulation time to 33% with Labster

Oakwood University sought to level the playing field in its gateway science courses, which contained a mix of majors and non-majors. The challenge was to ensure all students built a strong foundational knowledge and were prepared for success, particularly in a fully online learning environment. To address this, Professor Onesimus Otieno turned to Labster's virtual lab simulations.

The solution involved implementing Labster's simulations, which provide step-by-step guidance and emphasize theoretical principles. This allowed students to repeat experiments without risk and answer quiz questions for deeper understanding. The results included increased student confidence and a comparable, often better, theoretical grasp than from traditional labs. Labster's performance reports also enabled easier assessment for instructors. Additionally, student advocacy for Labster led to wider adoption across the university, including in the nursing program which now uses UbiSim for 33% of its simulation time.
