A Labster Case Study
Fisk University, a small Historically Black College and University (HBCU), faced the challenge of maintaining high-quality chemistry lab instruction during the pandemic with limited resources and faculty. A key challenge was making science relatable to students to improve engagement and prevent them from feeling incapable and dropping out. To address this, they turned to Labster's virtual lab simulations.
By implementing Labster's simulations for both homework and in-class activities, instructor Cord Carter used an active learning approach that helped students better connect course topics to real-world applications. The solution from Labster proved to be cost-effective and easy to use. This resulted in a measurable 17% increase in average final course grades, rising from a C- (72%) to a B (85%), and students demonstrated a greater ability to apply their learning outside the classroom.
