Daemen University reduces student anxiety with Labster virtual labs in Organic Chemistry

Daemen University, a small undergraduate institution, faced the challenge of student anxiety and a grade-driven mindset in its Organic Chemistry course. The university also lacked the capacity for advanced instrumentation like NMR. To address this, Assistant Professor Caitlyn Montross implemented Labster's virtual lab simulations to create a more engaging and accessible learning environment.

Using Labster’s simulations for Proton NMR, Infrared Spectroscopy, and other techniques, Daemen University fostered a curiosity-driven approach that reduced student anxiety. The solution provided a multi-modal method for students to repeatedly test their knowledge, which built confidence and enhanced comprehension. Labster also gave the instructor tailored feedback to improve lectures and exposed undergraduates to equipment otherwise unavailable on campus.
