Case Study: Barton Community College boosts STEM engagement with Labster virtual labs

Barton Community College uses Labster to deliver 15 virtual labs a semester

Barton Community College, a Kansas-based institution, sought to enhance its online introductory biology courses by providing students with memorable, hands-on lab experiences without physical lab access. Adjunct Professor Annemarie Duncan wanted to connect STEM learning to real-world applications for both majors and non-majors. To meet this challenge, the college turned to the vendor Labster and its virtual lab simulations.

Labster provided a solution through its immersive virtual labs, which simulate real laboratory equipment and procedures. Students used simulations like Introduction to Food Macromolecules and Pipetting to methodically work through experiments. The results were highly positive; students found the labs fun, engaging, and beneficial for pulling course material together. Professor Duncan reported that Labster saved her time on student support and achieved the primary goal of providing the most hands-on experience possible outside of a physical lab.
