Labguru preserves the University of Georgia's institutional knowledge

The University of Georgia’s plant pathology lab, led by Prof. Brian Kvitko, needed a better way to preserve institutional knowledge as students graduated and new team members joined. Their challenge was to replace paper lab notebooks, which were hard to share, inconsistent, and difficult for newcomers to use. They chose Labguru’s ELN/LIMS platform to create a secure, centralized system for storing research data and lab documentation.

With Labguru, the lab standardized notebook entries, centralized onboarding materials, SOPs, permits, and inventory, and made research information accessible remotely. Labguru helped the team find experiment information at least twice as fast as with their own paper notebooks and five times as fast as with previous lab members’ notebooks, saving about two hours per researcher each week. The vendor, Labguru, also helped the lab keep projects moving during COVID-19 restrictions and improved manuscript, report, and presentation preparation.
