North Carolina State University - Customer Case Study

The Biotechnology Program at North Carolina State University sought to modernize its laboratory coursework by implementing a digital solution to overcome the limitations of traditional paper notebooks. Their challenges included students forgetting physical notebooks and the difficulty of managing data across multiple course sections. They partnered with LabArchives to utilize its Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) service to create a more efficient and accessible workflow for both students and instructors.

LabArchives provided a centralized digital platform that streamlined the course administration and enabled easy access to lab data from anywhere. This proved especially critical during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the university’s repository of three years worth of student data stored in LabArchives allowed instructors to provide real data for remote students to analyze, ensuring continuity of learning. A study conducted by the university found a clear shift in student preference towards the digital ELN after use, highlighting its success in improving the educational experience.
