Implementing an Institution-Wide ELN Initiative Greater volumes of data are generated than ever before with expanding technologies that create large amounts of data

The Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) faced challenges with decentralized research data management, leading to security vulnerabilities, lost data, decreased productivity, and a lack of oversight. To address this, the institution selected the LabArchives Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) to improve data security, organization, and shareability across its research labs.

Starting with a successful pilot, the LabArchives ELN was implemented institution-wide with support from the medical library, which provided training, one-on-one support, and best practices. The solution led to improved researcher efficiency, consistent documentation, and established naming conventions. IUSM added an Information Management Advisory Board and a new staff position to ensure long-term success, with user adoption growing every month since the 2019 launch.
