United Way is the national movement of some 1,400 independent, community-based organizations that needed a cost-efficient way to communicate quickly across geographically dispersed affiliates and the public. To solve this, United Way has used L-Soft’s LISTSERV email list management software since 1998 to coordinate information, alerts and discussion among staff, partners and stakeholders.

L-Soft augmented United Way’s capabilities with donated LSMTP and LISTSERV Maestro, enabling the organization to run 92 lists with 734,578 subscribers (the September 11th Fund list alone has over 700,000) and handle average daily traffic of about 3,500 messages. Using L-Soft products United Way reached more than 700,000 donors after 9/11, can now tailor messaging to specific audiences, and is positioned to expand outreach to 8,000–10,000 professionals and the broader public.
