Thrust SSC, a team aiming to build the first supersonic land car, needed a scalable way to communicate with a growing and diverse audience of supporters, sponsors and donors. Their existing mail system could not handle the volume or remote satellite management required, so they selected L-Soft’s LISTSERV email list management software to provide high-speed, automated list delivery and administration.

L-Soft’s LISTSERV gave Thrust SSC two lists serving 17,000 subscribers with automated management and fast delivery over a satellite link, cutting administrative overhead from several hours to zero per week. The lists directly enabled fundraising (one message raised 92% of the £125,000 needed) and helped the team reach its goal—setting the world land speed record at 763.035 mph (Mach 1.02) on October 15, 1997.
